As Live- First ideas for VT's

So on Monday we had our first production meeting. This involved us getting into the groups we would be involved with in the pre- production stage and working out what is going to be asked of us. My group consisted of myself, Maddie, Hennie, Jo,Fran and Jane. We would be in control of making the 3 VT packages for the show.
Lauren let us know a brief outline of her idea and what she was visualising for the 3 VT's.
She is looking for her unsigned bands programme to be aimed at 16-34 year olds and has in mind for it to be broadcast on BBC3 on a Sunday night. The kind of style we are looking to acheieve is fast paced and indie.

The 3 VT's.

1. The first VT we will be producing is based around the idea of a 'where to go' guide to Maidstone. For example where the best places to go to see live bands perform etc. This will be presented by a seperate presenter, not the same woman/man who will be doing the As Livwe recording.
2. the second VT will be a, 'On The Road With...' This will involve following a band who is performing on the show around to see what they get upto when the band is together.
3. The 3rd VT is planning to be a inside the recording studio, or day in the life of one of the band members, following the around their daily lives etc.

I am really looking forward to getting started on these VT, i think not only will they be alot of fun to shoot, but we will get the opportunity to go out of our comfort zone and experiment more then we have done before!

As Live- update

So today we found out whose pitch was chosen for the As Live project. Everyone was extremely hopeful that theirs would be chosen, but with 12 pitches and only one idea being picked there were going to be some very disapointed faces! Unfortunately mine was not picked, but I am going to keep everything that i have done so far and hopefully put it to use one day!
The idea that was chosen was Lauren's. Her idea was based around a music show for unsigned acts. I think this is a good idea and can have contributions from everyone on the course.
We then found out which roles we would be playing for the show. I was picked to do the making of the VT's alongside Hennie, Maddie, Jo, Fran and Jane. This will involve planning, shooting and editing 3 VT's for the programme. This will all be pre production and so on the day of the As live filming i have been assigned another role, which is P.A. This role will involve me being very organised, sorting paperwork etc, and also keeping count of the minutes and seconds throughout the 30 minutes to make sure we do not run over our time limit. I am pleased with this role as i believe it is key to the smooth running of filming on the day. I may need to brush up on my minutes and seconds being added together though!

So today i have been doing the final tweaks to my As Live production pitch. I am getting really into my idea and have my fingers crossed that my idea will be chosen! Below is my hand out that I will give to Helen, Hans and whomever else is on the panel.

This new generation of game show dating is now coming to your screens.

 This innovative new kind of dating show in which I hope to bring the old classic of Blind Date to the present screen with a unique twist.

I also have a 2 and a half page proposal which includes all my research into A Taste of Love, including, possible presenters, set design and the rounds for the show.

Blind date

I have continued to progress with my idea of the dating cookery show for my As Live unit. It has become more and more apparent to me that the more I add to this idea, the less it becomes about a cookery dating show and more about a general dating show with a twist. i have come to think of my idea as a modern day version of Blind Date.
I have been developing some of my ideas for the challenges/rounds of my show and have come up with 3 firm ideas:

Round one; a cookery section in which the 3 guys have to cook for the bachelorette. The twist to this will be that the cooking will be done in the girls kitchen and seeing as the identities of the 3 bachelors cannot be revealed she will be wearing a blindfold. This means that the intrigue and excitement of wanting to know who she is talking to is kept but the girl still gets to know the guy and obviously taste his food too. This part of the show will be pre recorded and shown as 3 separate VT's on the day of filming.

Round two; this round will consist of one member of each guys family, or a close friend will be brought onto the show to reveal a secret/embarrassing story about each guy. Hopefully something very controversial! This will be filmed in front of a live audience in the studio.

Round 3; this round will be the final chance for the bachelorette to learn the last few crucial things she feels she needs to before making her final decision. A simple question and answer round means that the girl can ask controversial or fair questions that she feels appropriate on the road to making her decision. I was possibly thinking of having some questions from the audience in this section too as a bit of participation from them would add another dimension to the programme.

As Live- update

Today i had a tutorial with Helen about my As Live unit. I explained to her that i have 2 ideas (both of which I blogged about in my last post.) When Helen heard about my ideas her first problem was the same as what i have been thinking. How are we going to make it possible to cook in the studio with limited budget and time? Knowing this my idea for the student cooking show was pushed to the side and we concentrated on the cookery dating show idea.
One of the ways we thought of to get around having to build a kitchen on set, would be to have the 3 potential dates cooking for the singleton in his/her own home and using my 3 VT's for this. The As Live part of the show would come from the second half of the programme when it will be shot in the studio with an audience.
The scenes being shot in the studio are going to be 2 rounds, concentrating on the singleton getting to know her 3 potential dates a bit more. Whilst all of this is happening there will still be the Blind Date side to things in which all 3 hopefuls identities will be withheld from the singleton until his/her final choice is revealed.
Another idea that has been thought of is that round by round another section of the hopefuls will be revealed to the singleton. For example whichever hopeful wins round one, would have a panel removed to reveal part of their body the the singleton.
I clearly have more planning to do on this and will be doing it in the coming days.

As live-ideas

I have been having some trouble trying to decide on an idea for my as live project. I have decided that my programme will be based around cooking and i have 2 main ideas that i am going to develop.

The first idea is a programme about student cooking. There would be 2 teams from 2 different universities, who would compete to make the best 3 course meal from a limited budget. There would also be ingredients that the teams would have to use in their cooking, the ingredient would be something that is considered typically 'studenty.' For example baked beans or supernoodles. The best 3 course meal which comes on or under budget would win.

My second idea was another cooking show mixed with a dating show. There would be 3 male contestants, all wanting a date with the bachelorette. They would have to cook a 2 course meal for her with a budget and at the same time as cooking they would need to try and 'woo' her. I was thinking of bringing another element to this by having screens up so that the bachelorette cannot see them and has to rate them on their cooking and personality.

I obviously need to do some more development on these ideas and will be doing that over the next few days.

Fiction Adaptation- research

I have been doing some research for my fiction adaptation unit. I thought that if I did some research into the writer of my chosen poem i could find out if there is anything i can include to make it more personal to the poet.

The writer of The Listeners is Walter de la Mare, born in Kent on 25th April 1873 and died on 22nd June 1956. People have said he had two distinct aspects to his imagination, the childlike and the boylike. Walter de la Mare wrote a significant amount of ghost stories, with around 40 of his 100 published books being written around this genre of supernatural content. He also wrote some subtle psyhcological  horror stories, "Seatons Aunt" and "Out of the Deep" 2 of the main books he received praise for.

Finding out that Walter de la Mare was a very keen horror story writer has made me think that I can have the opportunity to make a film which is even more scarier then what i had originally planned. I want read through some of the books and poems he wrote to see if i can get anymore inspiration for my filming.
